About Kids Health Navigator
Kids Health Navigator was created to help Australian parents understand and navigate the child health system — especially when things feel unclear, overwhelming, or urgent.
When a child needs medical care, families are often faced with complex systems, long wait times, and uncertainty about where to go or who can help.
This space exists to make that pathway clearer.
Why this exists
This was built from both professional experience and real-life parenting.
With a background in complex care coordination within the healthcare system, I’ve seen how difficult it can be for families to access the right services — not because care isn’t available, but because the system itself can be hard to navigate.
At the same time, as a mum of three, I’ve also been on the other side — sitting in uncertainty, trying to work out:
Is this urgent?
Who do I go to?
How do I get my child seen sooner?
This combination is what shaped Kids Health Navigator.
What you’ll find here
This site provides practical, system-focused guidance to help you understand:
how referrals work (and how to use them effectively)
how to access paediatric specialists sooner
the difference between public and private pathways
what services exist in your community
when it may be appropriate to seek further review or escalate care
The aim is to give you clarity, direction, and confidence — not more overwhelm.
What this is (and what it isn’t)
Kids Health Navigator is not about replacing your doctor or giving medical advice.
It’s about helping you:
understand how the system works
know what options are available
feel more confident navigating next steps
So you can advocate for your child and access the right care at the right time.
A note on medical advice
The information on this website is general in nature and is designed to support families in navigating the healthcare system.
It is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek advice from your healthcare provider regarding your child’s specific situation.
